Coggins Testing
A Coggins test is a simple blood test that is used to help prevent the spread of Equine Infectious Anemia. It is sent to the laboratory for analysis.
Equine Infectious Anemia is viral disease that can be deadly. Unfortunately there is no vaccine or cure for it. If a patient survives the disease, they will always carry it and may become sick again if they are stressed. Some horses just seem to be carriers, never getting sick themselves.
Because some horses seem to carry the disease without showing symptoms, the best prevention is to test for it. Anytime you get a new horse or introduce a new horse into your herd, you should test the horse to make sure it doesn’t have the disease so your horses don’t get it.
It is also important for horses that travel frequently to be tested regularly. Many shows and other places where horses travel recommend or require that all horses be tested to prevent the spread of this deadly disease.
Equine Infectious Anemia used to be the cause of death for many horses. However, now that we offer Coggins testing and especially since it is required for most horses that travel, we have prevented a lot of unnecessary deaths.

We are pleased to be able to perform some surgeries at your farm, including castrations and some mass removals. We also have a state-of-the-art surgical suite at our hospital so that we can perform larger and more complex procedures.
It is our hospital’s goal to stay on top of the latest advances in veterinary medicine. We are constantly learning about new surgical techniques so that we can perform procedures as easily as possible.
We use the latest and safest anesthesia to ensure your horse has the quickest recovery possible. We also use the best monitors during surgery to keep an even better eye on your horse’s vitals.

Euthanasia/Hospice Care
One of the most important services we provide as a mobile vet is in-home euthanasia. When the time comes to say farewell, there is no place a pet would rather be than in the familiar comfort of his or her home. In-home euthanasia helps to reduce the anxiety and stress that pets feel when taking trips to the vet.
Part of our euthanasia service is a full examination, which we use to help determine whether there are any other options before euthanasia has to be considered. Once we have determined that the time to bid farewell has come, we carefully inject a sedative which ensures that your pet will feel relaxed and have a pain-free experience.
Finally, we administer the second injection, which causes your pet to drift into a deep, peaceful sleep. Their vital functions will cease and they will be at rest.
Prior to our visit, you can discuss with us about what you would like to do with your pet after euthanasia. We are able to take your pet for cremation in a dignified and discreet manner if you don’t wish to handle burial yourself. We aim to be as accommodating as possible because we know how painful the passing of a loved one can be.

Wellness Exams
Part of owning a pet is getting regular checkups and exams for your furry companion, which usually means a trip to the vet’s office. Often times, pets sense when they are on their way to the vet and will become stressed and agitated. Our goal at Stephen M. Sells, DVM is to provide you with those same general exams and checkups in the comfort of your home so your pet doesn’t have to stress.
During our general exams, we will examine your pet’s eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, listen for irregularities in breathing or heartbeat, check for any lumps or bumps under the skin, and observe motor functions for early signs of diseases like arthritis.
Most pets get the all-clear, and we’ll provide you with some helpful tips for maintaining your pet’s wellness. If needed, we can perform basic procedures, but in some cases, we will have to refer you to a veterinary hospital for more in-depth treatments.
Pharmacy
One of the most convenient services we provide at Stephen M. Sells, DVM is our mobile pharmacy. Whether it's a medication we prescribe during one of our general examinations or something you need to be administered regularly, we can provide it in the comfort of your own home. This is particularly useful for medications or therapies that need to be given via injection, as many owners find it to be stressful to administer themselves.
